This year, my “baby” started school. It is hard to decide if it is harder to watch your first child or your last child get on the bus and be in school all day. I have high school kids now and one in kindergarten and neither one is easy watching them grow up. I have one that is just learning to be a big kid and the other learning how to be an adult.

I am sure I am not alone in dealing with this life season.

Recently I had a teen reach out to me to do her senior photos. This is not a session that I do often – truthfully, I am just not that hip or cool with the teens. I am still that parents that gets a kick out of fart jokes and loves to crack a smile to a little one when I break out in dance moves… teenagers, don’t really see the silly in that any more in me. I love using natural light and honest expressions in my photos – which again, most teens aren’t into. So when I do get a teen that reaches out to me for senior photos, I am flattered.

We live in a small town of Spirit Lake, just outside of Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint. It is almost like a secret little spot that is filled with old values and beautiful spots to walk, swim, hike and gaze at the scenery. For this session, we stayed local and had a beautiful evening.

This senior girl, class of 2018, has plans of joining the military and serving our country and attend collage to become a pediatrician. What amazing plans she has! It is so fun learning to get to know kids and hear about their future – hearing what they want to be when they grow up.

I can’t help but feel proud of her – for all her accomplishments she has made so far and for all of them that are to come.

Beautiful Senior Session – my cup runneth over!

Her mom calls her “Doodle” and I just fell in love with that. A sweet gesture of love and her daughter never once rolled her eyes when her momma sweetly called her “doodle”. My momma heart melted every time.

I received a call one day from this momma who got my name from some other ladies from our church and said her daughter was in need of photos for her senior year. We chatted for a while and made some plans on what and where we were going to do her photos. It is not often that I take on “senior photos” as I am not one that popular with the senior crowd. I love children and I love real emotions and personalities – I guess you can just say I am not “hip” with the crowd – although I love to keep my lens filled with images of my own older kids! But hey, if your teen like to keep things simple – then let’s go!

We started her session here on our property in Spirit Lake, just letting the sun highlight her beauty through the trees. Working with Doodle (Miss J) was fun as she is super sweet and as you can tell, simply beautiful. As uncomfortable as it can be to have a camera in front of you, she was just herself and simply perfect! My property gave us some beautiful light and sun-flare and Miss J just relaxed into her own personality.

She sat, stood and played in the field and then quickly moved downtown to capture a few fun moments and finished the session at the lake where I just let her have some moments of peace and details. She has the most amazing eyelashes and I was totally having eye lash envy- if that is such a thing.  I wish I would have asked what she does but I let my 37 year old insecurities get to me so I have been on a search for some amazing mascara. Any suggestions?!

I was kind of sad when I finished editing this session as it had such a great feeling about it- the fashion, the peace, the simple details, the earthy colors, the lake… I can’t really decide what it is exactly but, I enjoyed every moment of this session – during and after.

Here is a sneak peek into our senior photo session here in Spirit Lake, Idaho.

Over the summer I had the pleasure of heading back to Sandpoint ID for some fun sessions – it is hard to not want to make it back up there this fall/winter to see everyone again. During my time there I was able to photograph a girl.

This girl…. the last time I saw her, was just in middle school, adorable, sweet, kind and very athletic. I could not believe my ears when she said she needed to get senior photos done. WHhhhaaaatt?! Wow- I felt so aged! I still could not grasp that she was a senior….. in HIGH SCHOOL! She was just a little girl the last time I got to see her.

When she got out of her car to meet up with me in downtown Sandpoint- I could not believe my eyes. Not only was she like 9 feet tall (not really that tall) but she is GORGEOUS!

Miss A was still a little shy- but we had fun as we cruised around town, sneaking into ally’s and making her laugh as we walked the docks. I have this major fear of water… and docks. We closed out our evening that night by ending up in a field in Dover Bay- soaking up the sun and talking about dreams and goals.

This girl…. she will move mountains!

Here is a sneak peek into our session together.

My favorite part of the session together… we were out in this field- I was guiding her in the light on how to pose. This guy in a big blue truck comes driving by, sticks out his BIG camera out the window and just stares for a bit. He freaked out a little but it made me laugh that he would show us his camera. Like us girls were suppose to just scream with envy lol.

I had a great session the other day – in the beautiful sun. But let me tell you… that wind was BLOWING. My eyes are so sensitive in the wind that it looked like I was crying during the whole session. I guess I could have played it up by saying… “she was so beautiful, that I cried with joy”… hehehe I’m a dorkfish.

Meet Miss N. She has the cutest dimples 🙂

Senior2

We had a good time at Dover Bay- enjoying the scenery and the sun. Even the wind gave us that nice model hair.
