I have to first start this blog post with a story.

Since I could remember, my biggest fear was…. da- da- dummm. The Dentist. Holy wow. Just the mention of that word, would make my tummy hurt, my mouth water and pucker in fear and I would suddenly become itchy all over the place. It is safe to say, growing up and as a young adult, I never had a good experience at the dentist. I am that patient that never goes or if it is absolutely necessary, I must be drugged and put to sleep. No Joke. I am happily pay to go night-night during any dental procedure. The pain that if forever embedded in my head and that sound. Oh my goodness. that sound! The vibrating in my head, the echo of that drill. Seriously, can you feel that fear because that $h*# is REAL.

Ok scary story over- now let’s get to the good happy ending story.

Eariler this year, I happened to leave a post on facebook that a friend of mine was in need of emergency dental work and he was in a lot of pain. I had a few people leave comments on who they recommended, but, I was taken by surprised when an actual local dentist left me a message offering his care and services. My friend did actually go into see this dentist and told us how easy this dentist made his issue pain free and his tooth in better care. So… then my head started thinking.. and sometimes, my head thinks way too much and I admit, it can get a little dramatic in there.

Truth be told, I needed some dental care and I knew it wasn’t a healthy or pretty sight pass my big front teeth, oh but my fears and insecurities started taking over my head. I think after a few days, I got the courage to make a phone call to schedule my consultation.  I am sure that poor receptionist thought I was a fruit loop because I tried to be clear on how scared I was. When I finally made it to that appointment, I greeted very sweetly and knew my name when I walked in. They made sure I wasn’t sitting too long in the waiting room and the hygienist that came to get me was like my guardian angel.  She talked softly and gently to me and never once talked down to me. I cried a few times because my nerves were seriously clingly to the roof, but she kept a gentle hand on my shoulder and a smile on her face.

When the dentist came to see me, he too was kind me to anxiety and nerves. Even though my face was a little tear stained, I left the office with my next appointment and I felt like I accomplished a huge step! From then on, it has been an actual enjoyable and easy visit. Each time, he makes sure I am doing ok with my anxiety and even lets me wear the x-ray coat to make me feel secure. Sounds funny, but it helps a ton.

My fear of the dentist is actually … well.. I believe it’s gone. I know and trust that when I go in there that I will not be rushed or pushed away for my crazy anxiety. One of the other best things about this office is the staff. They really make you feel like you matter. My only wish now is that they accepted Medicaid so I could have my kids go there!!

Ok – so are you just itching to know who I am talking about??? Are you too so scared of the dentist, you rather just pretend those issues are there?? Are you looking for a place that you can trust and get some amazing care for yourself or your family??

Well.. Pine Street Dental is the place you need to call. Dr John Wilson is the dentist you need! Best of all, you don’t have to be ashamed to tell the receptionist or Dr. Wilson that you are scared or nervous.

During one of my appointments I had learned that Dr Wilson was expecting another baby soon and lucky me, I was able to do a newborn session for his family. I was so excited to meet his wife and his kids and of course hold and meet a new baby. When that session day finally came, I was all bubbly with excitement and nerves again. I always get nervous before a session because I want to do a good job for each family. I try to spend a few minutes in prayer before each session asking God to open my eyes to His beauty He created and for me to be fully present to capture all the beautiful moments.

When our session day arrived, I had moments of giddiness because finally I was able to introduce my REAL self – not the scared -look-like-a-crazed-lady, but a person who smiles with happiness and share my talent. This day- the tables were turned!

Dr Wilson and his beautiful wife arrived and all of their adorable kiddos. I had a girl crush moment there as her daughters had on these cute dresses and as a mom of mostly boys, I miss the dress days of a girly childhood. The girls are the sweetest and just smiled the whole time and loved the moments when they got to hold their baby sister. Baby Kendall is already so loved and protected! The Wilson family also has a spunky little boy who truly loved being a brother. I giggled as I watched him explore the studio and climb the chair and just play. He is going to show Kendall many adventures as they grow up together!

So… how about I stop my chatting and show you a sneak peek into their newborn session!

Being a baby photographer has many joys. One of my favorite perks, is being able to hold and snuggle new babies. Their tiny features so delicate and pure.

Baby Claire came to see me a few weeks ago – 5 pounds of adorable cuteness. Her mom and dad looked so happy and it was so sweet to watch them snuggle and connect with their daughter. Photography is such a joy. But connecting with the families is the best gift ever!

I created a special birth announcement for them. I learned during her maternity session, that this hubby serves in the military and just moved from my old stomping grounds in Virigina.

Introducing a new baby buck – Knoxx

When I received the news that this momma was expecting… first, I kind of had a feeling before it was announced and then second, I jumped up and down. My husband has gotten used to the fact that I do a little celebration anytime I get the good news that my clients and friends tell me they are having a baby. Gosh, I get so excited with every announcement!

I have had the pleasure and honor to be able to document each new baby of hers and I was thrilled beyond words to be able to document this little guy and all his tiny details.

Over the fall, we did a maternity session to announce their arrival of their little buck, Mr. Knoxx. Her session was stunning with the fall sunset. I had so much fun just being with her family and watching them love on each other. Feel free to read all about her maternity session or fill up on some eye candy over on Pinterest.

Finally the day had come when I was able to meet their little buck and get some of my own snuggles. The first time seeing him, my heart just melted and I think my voice went up two notches in baby talk. He is so handsome – such the looks of a little man. Perfect! And he was amazing during his session with me. It was very hard not to want to make this mom and dad stay longer just so I could get more snuggles in. Baby Knoxx is so loved and adored not only by his sisters and his mom and dad, but also by so many friends and family. I am so excited to watch this little guy grow up. I promise you will see more of him gracing the pages of my website and social media.

Here is a sneak peek into our newborn session.

Christmas was coming and we knew that a baby would soon be here. The C family were expecting baby #5 any day and have been waiting patiently to see if they were going to hold a new baby girl or a new baby boy.

I was asked to document their birth as it had been a dream of this momma’s for a while. So I was thrilled when I was asked. There is nothing like witnessing a baby come into the world and seeing who amazing God made women to give life!

You can view their Pure Moments Film or keep reading to hear about the birth.

This momma is a very strong woman. Labored for days. Weeks. News came daily that no progress had been made which if you had experience a long labor you know how hard that news is to accept. Your body feels terrible, pain comes and goes, nothing brings comfort.

On January 2nd I received a message that labor had finally stuck around and was moving pretty well. She had reached 5 cm. I jumped out of bed, excited and happy to meet this baby. I had my thoughts they were expecting a boy and I wanted to stand right along with them and cry with joy of a new baby. I arrived at her home just as the sun was coming up. The midwives were there, the kids were all awake and enjoying the company of their nana and gramma. Life was moving along and we were all excited to finally meet this little baby that was all snuggled up inside their momma.

Hours had passed and although there was some progression, it still wasn’t as much as momma had hoped. You can see the stress and exhaustion over momma’s face. The hardest part about documenting a birth is feeling helpless. It is my nature to want to help in any way that I can. But I knew she was in good hands and I also knew that if I was needed for anything, she would have asked. Finally it was all agreed that what she needed most was to get complete rest. Everyone was to leave and just let her have her own space to move and sleep as she needed. The baby needed her to do that too. So, I packed up the gear, said a silent prayer and left to get some lunch.

A few hours had passed and as the evening came in, momma knew the best thing that she could do at the moment was to get out and walk. Since it is winter here in Idaho, the best place to walk would be the only store that doesn’t have closing hours – Wal-Mart. I decided to meet her there and document her walk around. I admit that I too have taken that pregnancy stroll, but I was not as smooth as she was. Again, I admire how strong this momma is. Half the time you couldn’t tell she was having a contraction, she would either just slowly walk or just hang her head. Once in a while there would be a moment where we would stop and just have to rest. Oh how my body could feel that pain for her!

After we spent some time walking the isles, we parted ways and I left her go back home to rest as I stayed close by waiting for her text that the contractions had sped up. Unfortunately her contractions stalled again and it wouldn’t be for another few days until she was able to meet her new son.

January 7th. The morning was glorious. The most beautiful and clear sunrise. There she sat all snuggled in her bed, she was holding Mr. Thorin Phillip. 8 pounds and 13 ounces of baby! A handsome chuck of boy.

It was such an honor to be able to be a part of something so incredible. I love being able to watch my families grow and I love meeting all the new babies. Being able to create a Pure Moments Film for this family – for this moment if their life- was a gift. I hope that their kiddos enjoy watching it over and over again as much as I do.
