Christmas was coming and we knew that a baby would soon be here. The C family were expecting baby #5 any day and have been waiting patiently to see if they were going to hold a new baby girl or a new baby boy.

I was asked to document their birth as it had been a dream of this momma’s for a while. So I was thrilled when I was asked. There is nothing like witnessing a baby come into the world and seeing who amazing God made women to give life!

You can view their Pure Moments Film or keep reading to hear about the birth.

This momma is a very strong woman. Labored for days. Weeks. News came daily that no progress had been made which if you had experience a long labor you know how hard that news is to accept. Your body feels terrible, pain comes and goes, nothing brings comfort.

On January 2nd I received a message that labor had finally stuck around and was moving pretty well. She had reached 5 cm. I jumped out of bed, excited and happy to meet this baby. I had my thoughts they were expecting a boy and I wanted to stand right along with them and cry with joy of a new baby. I arrived at her home just as the sun was coming up. The midwives were there, the kids were all awake and enjoying the company of their nana and gramma. Life was moving along and we were all excited to finally meet this little baby that was all snuggled up inside their momma.

Hours had passed and although there was some progression, it still wasn’t as much as momma had hoped. You can see the stress and exhaustion over momma’s face. The hardest part about documenting a birth is feeling helpless. It is my nature to want to help in any way that I can. But I knew she was in good hands and I also knew that if I was needed for anything, she would have asked. Finally it was all agreed that what she needed most was to get complete rest. Everyone was to leave and just let her have her own space to move and sleep as she needed. The baby needed her to do that too. So, I packed up the gear, said a silent prayer and left to get some lunch.

A few hours had passed and as the evening came in, momma knew the best thing that she could do at the moment was to get out and walk. Since it is winter here in Idaho, the best place to walk would be the only store that doesn’t have closing hours – Wal-Mart. I decided to meet her there and document her walk around. I admit that I too have taken that pregnancy stroll, but I was not as smooth as she was. Again, I admire how strong this momma is. Half the time you couldn’t tell she was having a contraction, she would either just slowly walk or just hang her head. Once in a while there would be a moment where we would stop and just have to rest. Oh how my body could feel that pain for her!

After we spent some time walking the isles, we parted ways and I left her go back home to rest as I stayed close by waiting for her text that the contractions had sped up. Unfortunately her contractions stalled again and it wouldn’t be for another few days until she was able to meet her new son.

January 7th. The morning was glorious. The most beautiful and clear sunrise. There she sat all snuggled in her bed, she was holding Mr. Thorin Phillip. 8 pounds and 13 ounces of baby! A handsome chuck of boy.

It was such an honor to be able to be a part of something so incredible. I love being able to watch my families grow and I love meeting all the new babies. Being able to create a Pure Moments Film for this family – for this moment if their life- was a gift. I hope that their kiddos enjoy watching it over and over again as much as I do.

This weekend I spent it fully in bed. Saturday my body slept all day and Sunday I was short of breath, weak and so shaky. This week’s migraine had been the worse and I was not happy on how it left me feeling, BUT… it did give me a chance to rest and watch a few movies I have been eyeing to watch.

I will try to not spill the beans on all the movies and shows but here is a short list of some things to watch 🙂

Me Before You – Even the cover image made me think that this was going to be a tear jerker of a movie so sadly, I avoided it for a while.

tumblr_o5j7oqbxak1ulesryo2_r1_1280Young and quirky Louisa “Lou” Clark (Emilia Clarke) moves from one job to the next to help her family make ends meet. Her cheerful attitude is put to the test when she becomes a caregiver for Will Traynor (Sam Claflin), a wealthy young banker left paralyzed from an accident two years earlier. Will’s cynical outlook starts to change when Louisa shows him that life is worth living. As their bond deepens, their lives and hearts change in ways neither one could have imagined.

I am glad I watched this alone because I cried that ugly cry. But the movie left me happy yet sad. Yes- it is totally possible. I highly recommend you snuggle up in bed- after the kids and possibly the hubby goes to bed- with some popcorn and tissues.

My second movie I spoiled myself with this weekend was one from Pure Flix – Pure Flix Entertainment, LLC is an award-winning American independent Christian film and television studio, headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. The company produces, distributes, acquires and markets Christian and family-friendly films

I heard some reviews about the movie The Encounter – a movie about five strangers that are marooned in a deserted roadside diner and encounter a man who knows all of their secrets and can fix all of their problems if they trust in him.

The acting was a little less then perfect but you get wrapped up in the message of the movie that you kind of forget about the B rated acting. Again, good message and made me wonder what my reaction would be if I was in that situation.

My third treat of the weekend was another tear jerker movie – Mr. Church

mr-church-posterWhen a young girl and her dying mother are joined by a black male cook who comes to live with them, little do they know that their lives are about to change forever.

Eddie Murphy played a great role in a dramatic movie and I think this is a great date night movie either with your loved one or even with some friends.

If  you have seen any of these or if you do, please contact me as I love to be able to just talk about the movies. I love to hear what others thought- what they liked and didn’t like, etc.

I recently took a workshop for video and I am so glad that I was able to be a part of this. I needed it. I need help with my little hic-cups and that pep talk to give me confidence to keep sharing my heart for providing video sessions to clients. One of the assignments was to make a video featuring our family learning all the tools we learned. It felt so wonderful to get behind the camera to focus on my family. They are always there for me in all of my moments of life and business and it was great to sneak in some moments that I will keep safely tucked away in my mommy vault.

I always tell my clients to not stress when planning their session – that I really want them to just enjoy the moment. Granted I totally understand how hard it is to act natural when someone has a camera on you, but after the first few minutes pass, I hope that the big black camera becomes a blur and they really do just enjoy the moment they are in. I love to be able to capture raw real moments between parents and the kids. Natural reactions are the best!! So when I turned my camera towards my own family, I had to take my own advice and just go with it. Outfits weren’t perfect, the house was not clean, and most of the time, the moment was not planned. Real- natural- raw moments were captured and I am so happy that I was there to capture it.

I love to share sessions from clients but today I wanted to share my family with you. Each moment has a meaning and I can sit here for hours and tell you a story to each moment, but I will spare you the novel 🙂

Here is MY family – Fall 2016

2016 Fall Family Favorites from Jax Creations Photography on Vimeo.

I have been a photographer for about 10 years- back before there was so much information available on the web, so I had a lot of falls, bumps, and bruises, but it was my heart and passion and the families I got to meet that kept me going. I have started on my plan again this year and through life lessons, I learned again that sticking to my heart and my meaning of photography, to do just that. I am slowly changing things around and offering more of what I believe in. In the next month or so you will start to visually seeing these changes and I can’t wait for you to see it! I love to connect with my clients giving them an experience more than just an “appointment” so once again you  as clients will see changes just meant for you – in every session- before, during and after.

New clients – you are in for a treat because your time with Jax Creations Photography will be an experience – something special just for you and your family.

Pure Moment Films will be in heavy swing and I have something EXTRA awesome special for those who want to book a Pure Moment Film session.  Those sessions will still include photos and video but I have something a little special just for you!

Thank you all for your support in all that I create!

Pictures can say a thousand words- leaving you speechless, in tears and filled with happiness. But video- well, that can leave you breathless!

Pure Moments sessions are one of my favorites because no only do I get to capture emotion on film but I also get to share a beautiful moment in action. You have seen this little baby in a recent blog post where I was able to travel up to Idaho to capture his beautiful momma while he was still in belly but also as a newborn. Here is their Pure Moment Video.

“Midwife”

Tuesday March 11 7pm

Bas Bleu Theater

Please join us for a showing of the documentary “Midwife” at Bas Bleu theater.

“Midwife” follows Minnesota home birth midwife, Sarah Biermeier (of Geneabirth), during her first year as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). The documentary quietly shows the life of a home birth midwife, from prenatals, to births, to postpartums, while also examining what the birth environment looks like in states where home birth midwifery is not legal, and families are faced with fewer birth options.

The film has an excellent balance of a clear, strong political message and deep, soulful (but not sentimentalized) view of physiological birth.

Twenty-two states do not allow CPMs to attend home births. If a midwife chooses to practice anyway, they are faced with the possibility of arrest. In an act that should be simple, giving birth has become a human rights issue and a political event. “Midwife” shows the compassion and beauty that begins with birth, and encourages viewers to explore their options, and with whom they choose to attend their births.

Click HERE to purchase tickets to Midwife. Stop by early to come visit me and other wonderful vendors.
