This is probably my last session I will ever get with this amazing family. Sadly and yet, exciting, they are getting ready to plant new roots in a new home town over on the East Coast.

It has been so much fun watching this family grow and love from their first new baby to now. I truly am blessed to have such amazing families to photograph and document, but I do admit that this family really knows how to just have fun together, laugh, and make memories!

Recently they invited me over for some family time and breakfast. Here is a little Pure Moments Film of their morning together!

I love making films for families and even for my own family. My kids will sit for hours watching their films and my clients films on the tv. I know this will be something that they will treasure for a very long time.

If you are a photographer and are interested in learning how to create your own films, I highly suggest Emily Mitchell’s class Everyday Films.

The class is full of information and is easy to follow. You can also find Emily on FACEBOOK

This year, my “baby” started school. It is hard to decide if it is harder to watch your first child or your last child get on the bus and be in school all day. I have high school kids now and one in kindergarten and neither one is easy watching them grow up. I have one that is just learning to be a big kid and the other learning how to be an adult.

I am sure I am not alone in dealing with this life season.

Recently I had a teen reach out to me to do her senior photos. This is not a session that I do often – truthfully, I am just not that hip or cool with the teens. I am still that parents that gets a kick out of fart jokes and loves to crack a smile to a little one when I break out in dance moves… teenagers, don’t really see the silly in that any more in me. I love using natural light and honest expressions in my photos – which again, most teens aren’t into. So when I do get a teen that reaches out to me for senior photos, I am flattered.

We live in a small town of Spirit Lake, just outside of Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint. It is almost like a secret little spot that is filled with old values and beautiful spots to walk, swim, hike and gaze at the scenery. For this session, we stayed local and had a beautiful evening.

This senior girl, class of 2018, has plans of joining the military and serving our country and attend collage to become a pediatrician. What amazing plans she has! It is so fun learning to get to know kids and hear about their future – hearing what they want to be when they grow up.

I can’t help but feel proud of her – for all her accomplishments she has made so far and for all of them that are to come.

My nerves were all over the place – was I going to be able to capture moments that had meaning?

A few weeks ago I was asked by Susan from DS Connections NW, if I would come and do team photos for their annual Step Up to DS walk in Spokane. I actually met Susan last year when I was planning on doing a community event for down syndrome children, giving them a pirate party for fun! When the event was not published as it was suppose to, I took it very personal and felt terrible for these families that never got to share their story with our community. So when Susan asked me to step in to do photos for this year, I was very happy to do so.

The Step UP for Down Syndrome Walk (formerly known as the Buddy Walk) was developed as a way to reach out to friends, family, and co-workers to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome. It is also designed to raise funds for local and national education, research and advocacy programs.

The Step UP Walk is an easy one mile walk in which anyone can participate without special training. Hundreds of thousands of people take part in different walks from coast to coast and around the world each year to show their support for Down syndrome awareness.

People throughout the Inland Northwest whose lives have been touched by Down syndrome will join with members of our local business community in helping to raise awareness of the many abilities that people with Down syndrome possess and to celebrate the many ways they contribute to the benefit of both our professional and civic communities.

The walk was held at Discovery Park in Spokane, which is an adorable park! There were all kinds of things for the kids and the families to do together before and after the walk started. Raffle items, American Ninja course, photo booth, arts & crafts, bubbles, a happy clown that makes balloon animals, hats and swords and a sweet little spot for the kids to be in the Hall of Fame photo wall. Each year they take a photo and each year they can look back to see how much they have grown. And then of course, the team photo area – which is where I was.

The families were all in happy spirits and it was wonderful meeting all these beautiful children that were full of precious personalities. Everyone played, danced, laughed, and joined together to help make a difference for DS Connections NW.

Here is a list of the vendors that also participated in the walk event.

The next day after the walk I learned that there was over 700 registered Walkers, 48 teams and they raised enough money  to fund all of their programs for 2018! That is very exciting news!!!

Here are a few sneak peeks of the walk and these kiddos that I just wanted to scoop up and snuggle!

I have been terrible on keeping up with my blog lately… and I don’t even have a really excuse for it.

Not too long ago, I got to meet up with an old client, who now does AMAZING lashes, to do a family session for her including her kiddos and her parent and siblings. I was super excited to see her again since the last time I got to see her littles was when they were actually little babies!

Her dad makes Rat Rods and he has a very fun and photogenic truck in their yard that was perfect to include in their family photos. After the “traditional” photos, I had them get silly and play around. When I mentioned a chicken fight, at first the kids were excited and the adults…. had a little hesitation, but they happily jumped on each others back and had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs!

Capturing family photos can truly be a lot of fun and they should be. It makes me happy when families let their guard down and just love on each other. These moments are precious and they are great moments to tuck away in their memories.

Here is a sneak peek into their family session. Lots of love, smiles and laughter. And if you are looking to get your lashes done, this lady is AMAZING. I love my lashes and she is so professional and good at it!

When I get ready to share a gallery with a client, I always sit and honestly have a few moments of panic. “what if they don’t like the photos?” “what if I didn’t do enough, or too much”? “will they ever come back?” I worry so much if I did a good job for my clients and I think it is because I truly want them to have a great experience and precious moments that they will cherish for life. I worry that maybe I haven’t share my “WHY” with them. So when a family shares their photos on social media or send me a quick note on how they feel about their photos, it gives me a moment of relief. I truly just want to be able to capture this small moment in their life and show them how beautiful they are and the blessing they have!

Here is what my client shared on her facebook about their experience.

Life gets busy and before we know it our little ones are moving on and out and having little ones of their own. Then there are those occasions where you wake up, look up and hope that all the memories of how things were will become memories for each one of your family members to pass on with happy thoughts to the next. Well I have to say that the memories we have from this day was SPECTACULAR and I personally think that all of you out there should take a few moments with Jackie Charlebois and create some of your own. In a world of technology it is STILL my favorite thing to sit down with some good ol fashion photos and reminisce. This woman made the day SUPER! She made us feel comfortable, was willing to work with our ideas, and captured our goofiness as well. Thank you Jackie Charlebois for being a part of our memories!!!!!!

Guys! Jackie Charlebois takes the stinking cake for most fabulous photographer of the year! We are not an easy family to capture. Add in my brother, sister, mother and father… things get waaaaaaaay more difficult 😎 No. but really. Jackie captured each of us in such a beautiful way. The session was FUN (almost unheard of for a mother…) and quick (could you ask for more?!). Get a hold of this woman for your family photos. Or. Any photos. I’m definitely not done with her

Friday September 8, 2017, I was able to witness and document one of the most amazing – miraculous things that can happen for a woman. Birth.

I have been blessed through my photography years to be able to document the birth of a child and each time it is the most beautiful thing to witness. I get so emotional with happiness which usually shows in tears. But I can’t help it.  And how can you not be just speechless when you realize and see that a BABY has been growing inside of a mom and now you get to see it right in front of you- to touch it and love it. Amazing is the only word that I can think of using, but it truly is just… amazing.

I have 5 beautiful children and had lost 1 baby just before he/she grew to be 20 weeks. And even though that moment in life was harder than I had prepared it to be, still the miracle of a baby growing and developing inside me… truly what a beautiful gift we are given as women. I had to talk my ovaries down a few times and swallow a few times as I let my mind and heart and body, crave another baby of my own.

Being able to see a fresh new baby and being able to take time to get lost in all the fine little details like counting all the little wrinkles on their fingers, how delicate their fingernails look, the tiny eyelashes, their mouth and how cute they are when already trying to suckle on something. Every little thing is a miracle and my heart is just overfilled with joy on how our God is so amazing.

Ok, I’m trying to reel it as I am getting all emotional.

Friday, a good friend, sister in Christ, client – was able to get permission from her doctor to have me there with her and her hubby during their scheduled c-section. This was so exciting to me. I was just getting back from vacation, getting my kids back on their school schdeule and now I get to document a friend during her c-section. This was over the moon exciting. But, I do want to share a little bit about her pregnancy journey because hopefully you too will feel how meaningful this was.

For her 3rd pregnancy, she was experiencing some painful moments which caused her to go into an early labor via c-section. She had a some “window” on her uterus which can be very dangerous for both mom and baby. I was able to be there for the birth of baby Ezekiel – documenting the prep before surgery and was there waiting for them after recovery. You can see their video HERE.

For this pregnancy, she knew that precautions were needed and her scheduled c-section would be earlier in case there was another chance of a uterine window. It was much better to be safe and plan for this pregnancy. They also decided to wait to find out if they were blessed with a boy or a girl. I had a feeling they were having another girl, but a boy seemed to be what others were guessing. I knew this was going to be exciting for them to find out together when they got to see baby. Such an awesome feeling of knowing at that moment.

6am I arrived at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene and we all hung out, joked around, prayed and waited til it was her time. They handed out the usual lovely cover up for her hubby and I to wear in the OR. John, the dad, looked like papa smurf and I looked like a giant marshmallow. But I couldn’t wait to bring it home for my kids to play in, I knew that they would think it was awesome (and they did).

I was given stern instructions on where I could not go or touch, but I was more than happy to obey because this was a special treat for me- and for this momma. This is most likely their last baby so I understand the feeling of wanting to document everything as much as they could. Once in the OR, the nurses and doctors were amazing. The lead nurse was grabbing me and pulling me to the best spot all over the OR to get the best view. And when there was going to be another good spot, the ushered me over to the other spot. At one point, the nurse even had all the doctors stop and pose for a photo.

Just before they reached baby, Dr. Henneberg noticed that this momma not only had another uterine window but it was much bigger than last time. If you have never heard of a uterine window before, it is like your uterus is as thin as saran wrap giving mom and baby a dangerous situation. The doctor, although amazed, called it a miracle!

When baby came out, it took a moment to realize they just had a girl. They totally didn’t expect a girl. I totally did (happy dance).

Here are some photos of baby Chole and her birthday!
