Just For Dads

b&k7

There is something so special- something you can not express with words… when you see a father loving his child. Whether it be a dad holding his baby for the first time, blowing raspberries on his babies belly, or running in the grass playing catch – there is nothing like the love of a dad.

I would have to say that its 99% of the time,  it’s the woman’s decision when and where to get photos done and more times than not its usually followed by some groans and moans from the hubbys. I mean, I can understand- I have a hubby to. They would rather be fishing, golfing, watching sports, ANYTHING other than getting dressed in like outfits and getting their photo taken- professionally. I guess its a good thing I am not boring LOL. If anything I make for some good entertainment – acting like a goon trying to get kids to laugh.

I hope that as a dad or a guy- coming in or on location for a session, that you do have a good time. I promise its not as stuffy as you may think it is. Below I have prepared a sneak peek into what YOU can expect at your next session your wife or partner drags you to!

If you are expecting a sweet little baby – one of the things that I try to get couples to understand is doing a maternity session is one of the most wonderful things that you two can do together – photo wise :) When I was pregnant with my now 3 year old, I told my hubby that I wanted to do maternity photos…. lets just say- he laughed. And then gave me that scrunched up face like ” why would you wanna do something like THAT”?! This was the moment where we could photograph our love and celebrate our growing miracle. Once the photos came back and he saw them – he was BEYOND glad we did that. In fact – no joke- those are his fave pictures of us. I would also have to agree with him. To this day, we love looking at them and seeing that love! He liked it so much, that when I became pregnant with our youngest, he asked when we were going to do it again!!!

If your lovie talks you into doing newborn photos – you gotta go! Even if you take a separate car so you can escape when we are all done- that is fine, but I do promise you that doing photos with your new little one is always rewarding… and yes a little messy.

When you come into your newborn session a few things that I suggest… an extra set of clothes is a must. I do newborn photos without a diaper on- unless the parents request otherwise, so someone WILL get messy. But no fear, a lot of times it is I that gets messy. But I want you to know in advance and be prepared that you COULD get pooed on or peed on. Its just a fact and its ok. All of my bedding and items that come in contact with your little one is washed after each session. I keep a full supply of wipes, paper towels, and tissues handy for an easy clean up :) The Studio is kept at a toasty 85 degrees to keep your little one comfortable. So be prepared for a little heat!

One of my favorite things is showing the masculinity of a dad with the softness of his baby. We will try a selection of “poses” with you holding your baby on your chest, in your arms, or simply in your hands.  If you are comfortable, I will ask you to remove your shirt and do some hand and chest poses with your little one. Here is an example.

In all sessions that we do together that includes you and your kiddos, all I ask from you is just to play. Interact. Tickle. Wrestle. Make silly faces.

The more that you are like yourself with your kids, the more fun and natural your images will be.

Here are a few blurbs from other dads that shared their experience with me!!

“My girlfriend and I just had our daughter and newborn son photographed by Jackie today, And i must say that aside from the amazing pictures taken, Jackie made it seem so easy and painless, all the while she was being peed on by my son!! (which was a little embarrassing:) she didn’t even skip a beat!. i cant wait to go back and have more pictures taken by Jackie. Such a friendly fun and professional environment! Thank you Jackie.” ~Jeffrey B (new daddy)

I am a father of four kids and taking pictures has always been a stressful event at Sear’s for us. I will say as a husband , father and man that Jackie made our family pictures fun, and I must say that it was very comfortable for myself and for my wife and kids! Our pictures turned out very nice and it’s a great memory looking at them. Thank you Jackie ! We will always be back! And we have a great Family picture to show for it!” ~Jack {dad}

This is from a mom and wife….

“With 7 kids a family photo is never an easy event. But Jackie took us with a grain of salt, showed my kids in the greatest light and their personality was just glowing through her photography. Even my husband was willing to go back because it was so painless! Now that is a compliment!”

So fear not dads and hubby’s! Feel free to kick back and relax and even have a few belly laughs. And if you are one of the lucky dads that has a little one that is required to be in the studio- I have goodies for you to snack on!!!
