Just For Dad | Dickinson Baby Photographer

As a mom I am really bias on Mothers Day, but I have to admit.. Dad’s get the short end of the stick.
There are so many specials, deals, gifts, etc for moms on Mothers Day, but I feel that dad gets hung out in the mud. This year I would love to have the focus on that special dad.
Dads are the ones that rescue us moms from our kiddos, has that special dance with baby that instantly calms baby down, or plays in that special way that only dad knows how to. Celebrate dad- and all that AWESOME that he is.
This year I am offering a special video/ photo session – Pure Moments With Dad
Your $250 Pure Moments With Dad will include your session, a short video, and a sticky album of your session for your phone.

ok- is there really such a thing???!!
A friend posted this website/ article to share on facebook. Today I want to share it with you
Stress-Free Parenting: Six Fun and Easy Ways to be More Patient with Your Toddler
Parenting can be stressful, especially when you have a preschooler underfoot, asserting her independence in everything. I’m thrilled to share Shelly from Awake Parent’s post today that offers practical, actionable advice on boosting our own patience while encouraging independence in our toddlers. Here’s to stress-free parenting!
“Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, MAMA, MAMA MAMA!!!” Sound familiar? If you have a toddler anything like mine, just hearing your beloved child repeat your name a dozen times is enough to drive you a little bit nutty.
And then there’s “No no no no NO NO NO!!!!” And by this time you’re thinking, why can’t he just cooperate?! Is it really too much to ask him to wash his hands before he eats?
Is it even possible to get out the door without a lengthy discussion on the merits of wearing shoes outdoors? And why in the world does she completely melt down when I give her the blue cup instead of the green one?
Parenting a toddler can be exhausting and frustrating, but wait, wasn’t this supposed to be one of the most joyful, fun, and exciting times of our lives?
I assure you, it can be again. Stick with me and I’ll show you how to go from a big fat “NO” to “Okay, let’s go!”
Toddlers resist when they feel forced
It makes sense, right? In fact, I think this is true of any person, toddler or not. When we feel forced to do something someone else wants us to do, we have a tendency to resist. We might not even dislike the proposed activity but as soon as it feels like a “should” or a “must” we resist.
That’s because humans need autonomy. And if you think about it, there’s one group of humans that get the least autonomy of all, toddlers. They’re just beginning to learn how to do things on their own, so we have a tendency not to trust that they can do it or to rush them or do it for them because they “take too long.” And since they were recently helpless infants, we’re in the habit of doing everything for them anyway.
But let’s take a look at this line of thinking. If we continue to do things for our little ones because letting them try takes too long (or is too messy or doesn’t produce the results we’d like) then before we know it we’ll be tying our seven year old’s shoes for him and doing our teenager’s laundry.
So consider your patience now as an investment in your freedom in the future. If we can allow our toddlers to try to do things on their own, they’ll be happier (because they actually have a very strong drive to learn to become more independent) and we’ll have more time and freedom later because our seven-year-old children will tie their own shoes and our teens will manage their own wardrobes.

Dr. Kylie Simnioniw | Dickinson ND Photographer

I was super lucky when we first moved here to hear ALL about Dr. Simnioniw… I call her Dr. Kylie because I can not for the life of me pronounce her last name- but that is ok, I think she can’t pronounce mine either lol
Dr Kylie Simnioniw is a local Chiropractor here in Dickinson ND- 352 1st St E Suite D. If you are a mom in the area, I HIGHLY recommend you see her- you would be shocked on how much chiropractic care helps a person- seriously you will be amazed! I have had the pleasure to get a treatment done for my nerve damage during one of my c-sections. My body felt like butter after- it was great lol.
Dr Kylie also does the local prenatal classes AND is a Doula . This woman needs a cape for all that she does- especially for our community. If you happen to listen to the radio in the mornings, you might have actually heard her speak. Please make sure you stop by her facebook page and keep connected- she seriously always shares wonderful information. I learn something new EVERY time!
Lillians {The Nest} | Dickinson Photographer

Some call me stubborn. Some call me Crazy. Some even call me …. other things…. but usually when I get an idea in my head it is SO hard for me to shake it free.
A few years ago, back in Sandpoint ID, I was annoyed that the closest baby fair event to us was in Spokane. To me that did not make any sense. Here was a town with a LOT of moms and we all had to travel for baby and maternity items. FINALLY… a childrens store had opened up and at that moment I made it my mission to bring a Baby Fair Event to Sandpoint. I believe it was a small town success!
Now that I have relocated to Dickinson, I see the same things.. There are a ton of moms out here and we are all struggling on things to do. After all- the parks seem to get boring after a while. I have all these ideas….. and I just can’t shake them.
Inspired by a photog fave of mine, I thought it would be cool to showcase local businesses, events, and things to do here in Dickinson. SO here is my first “THE NEST” post.
I can not say enough WONDERFUL things about this store. I LOVE IT!!! Cami- the owner is so incredibly awesome to be around. As a mom of 5 kids, I am less then perfect for all those teen outfits. But here at Lillians, I can find something that doesn’t look like “mom” clothes- if you know what I mean.
The first time I had my shopping experience here I was clueless on what would look good on me with my flat chested- mommy pudge-tummy. But sweet Cami came to my side to rescue and helped me get the perfect clothes for MY body. She was honest and blunt (thank you!!) and knew right away what would work and what wouldn’t. Surprisingly it was things I would NEVER imagine to try on, but this girl knows how to make a momma feel special!
This store is not only FASHIONABLE, its fun, colorful, exciting and hard to leave without a purple Lillians shopping bag!
I now have a nice collection of sexy, adorable, fun clothing pieces… One if even a jean skirt that I swore I would never look good in… well… until I shopped at Lillians- that is!
Every girl needs a little bling!!
Oh…. don’t forget to check out ALL the amazing accessories she has all around the store. I was able to finally purchase one of her bags and I get SOOOO many compliments on it. ACK! I Love this store!!!
As of RIGHT NOW- Lillians is open every Thursday- Sunday. But make sure you stop in often because things DO NOT stay on the shelves long and there are always new things up on the racks- which makes it so hard to stay away!
Here is more info about Lillians:

Walk into a Lillians Shoppe and you will hear bells ringing, women applauding and yelling ‘FREE handbag!’, or even ‘Man in the store!’ What’s not to love about bells going off, one purchase at a time, as someone cashes in their Lillians punch card for FREE merchandise? You’ll find hot coffee and sweet treats while Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra serenade you. The volume between the beloved crooners and the Lillians shoppers can be difficult to divide, but when the day is done, “That’s Amore” and “I’ve Got the World on a String” seems appropriate when asked to describe the Lillians experience.
Open only select days each month, Lillians features ridiculously affordable fashion, handbags, jewelry, sunglasses, scarves, and other fun “must have” accessories – great fashion and accessory labels you’ll find at boutiques and department stores but at incredible Lillians prices! Each month we showcase fabulous new merchandise during our limited open dates.
Lillians began in 2005 when two enterprising sisters, Cindy Dueser and Sue Olmscheid, opened the first Lillians in Buffalo, Minnesota. Some said they were crazy when they had the idea for a really hip and chic shoppe for women – where the Shoppes are not open every day and yet still provide a shopping experience of a lifetime. A tall order? Not so. Lillians combines the perfect ingredients that women have been waiting for; a high-touch and fun shopping experience like no other.
Lillians shoppes began with a 4-day sale concept open either the first or second Thursday through Sunday each month. To better serve our guests and make it easier to get their “Lillians fix” every month many Shoppes have added “Second Chance” sales, open an extra day or two the weekend following their 4-day sale; and a “Sneak Peek”, open a few hours one evening before their 4-day sale for an opportunity to purchase and preview hot new merchandise each month. Several Shoppes are now open every weekend as well. Please click on “Find a Shoppe” for specific open dates and hours at each location.
So all you moms…. give yourself a treat- leave the kids at home, grab your friend and do some shopping!! After you are done, grab that peaceful cup of coffee or tea you have been dreaming about!

I feel so blessed with such an amazing talent of photography. Now, please dont get me wrong I am in no way bragging on myself and growing a BIG head.. I am just saying I am blessed that I dont have to have a “REAL” job!
I love all the babies and kids (and families) that walk thru my doors, but every once in a while I get a call for some Editorial or Business photos. This month was full of them.. well, ok maybe not FULL, but more than usual. One of the calls were for some fashion/ product photos of a new company getting ready to open their doors and site called: Stickman Central. They are a clothing company!
A couple weeks ago we had a FULL day of shooting models and clothes but had a GREAT time. Here are a few of my faves!
**To all the models, Erica and Danette… Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this. I had a great time working with you and meeting everyone. Every single one of you guys had a GREAT attitude and were fun to work with. You made smile the whole time! I am looking forward in the baby/ childrens line and shoot. I am sure there are LOTS of moms too that would love to have their itty bitty be a Stickman- baby model
